German team joins Livingstone Partners in European expansion
July 2010
Livingstone Partners has reached agreement with mid-market M&A specialists Alarius GmbH to enter the German market. This re-unites Alarius partners Christian Grandin, Jochen Hense and Ralph Hagelgans with many former colleagues at Livingstone, with whom they co-operated closely for over a decade as part of Livingstone’s former international network.
The Dusseldorf-based advisory 10 stong team will join Livingstone’s staff across its offices in London, Madrid and Chicago and will provide Livingstone’s clients with enhanced coverage of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Partner at Livingstone London Phillip McCreanor commented: “We are delighted to welcome Christian, Jochen, Ralph and their colleagues into the Livingstone family. These are individuals that have an excellent reputation in the German mid-market and I can think of no better way of establishing ourselves as a serious player in the German region.”
Christian Grandin added: “We are excited to be working again with the Livingstone team. We established Alarius to deliver the very best of mid-market M&A advice to our clients in Germany and always envisaged becoming a truly international firm. Joining Livingstone now gives our clients direct access to acquisition targets, potential buyers and investors around the world.”
Neil Collen, partner at Livingstone Madrid, added: “We have regarded Germany as a key strategic market since we came together three years ago. The Livingstone model is focused on building an effective cross-border deal-making infrastructure based on putting our clients’ best interests first. Our clients told us that they wanted Livingstone team members to be assisting them across the globe rather than relying on loose associations of advisers and Livingstone’s operationally integrated service is proving the ideal solution.”
Steve Miles, partner at Livingstone Chicago added: “A core plank of Livingstone’s strategy is continuing to build on our sector focus and the German team’s extensive experience and contacts - in the Industrial space in particular - will bring further depth to our existing teams in these sectors.”
Following the merger, Livingstone will have over 75 staff across the four teams. In 2009, these teams completed 35 deals with an aggregate deal value of €1.15bn. Christian, Jochen and Ralph will continue to lead the German business as well as contributing to Livingstone’s international development. The operational integration of the businesses - with Alarius becoming Livingstone Partners in Germany - will take immediate effect.
