vitronet Holding, the rapidly expanding German provider of turnkey optical fibre infrastructure solutions, has successfully sold a minority stake in the business to RWE Deutschland AG, one of Europe’s leading electricity and gas utilities.
This is the fourth transaction on which the team at Livingstone Dusseldorf has advised the management of vitronet in the last two years.
Based in Essen, vitronet specialises in supporting the expansion of broadband networks and offers a full range of services from project management consultancy to maintenance and servicing. The company maintains and services over 10,000 km of optical fibre cables for clients - including RWE – such other telecoms providers, cable network operators, energy suppliers and municipal utilities companies.
“Modern IT and communication technologies are unthinkable without optical fibre. With RWE we now have the right partner to further expand our business,” commented Harald Ross, Managing Director of vitronet Group.
Partner at Livingstone Dusseldorf Christian Grandin first advised vitronet on the initial ‘platform’ purchase of Siemens’ data cable networks division in 2009 also helping the company to raise growth capital finance from German investor group Ventizz Capital Partners. Vitronet subsequently went on to acquire the design and engineering team at Gild.E mbH with Christian’s support.
Reflecting on this latest deal, Christian added, “There is a backlog in the provision of broadband networks, particularly in rural areas in Germany. Supporting its local partners in the roll-out of broadband networks is a strategic priority for RWE and cementing the relationship with vitronet was therefore an important initiative.”
“Livingstone is a relationship-based adviser and we relish the opportunity to embark on a journey with each new client and expect to last the distance! We are confident that there will be more deals to be done for Harald and his team.”
